Longtime Art Director of Assassin’s Creed, Raphael Lacoste, has left Ubisoft to move to Haven Studios.

Lacoste is leaving Ubisoft after 16 years with the company after working on eight Assassin’s Creed titles.

Lacoste played a key role in the creation of the Assassin’s Creed franchise alongside Jade Raymond, with whom he is now working again at Haven Studios. Sony is funding Haven’s first game, a new IP for PlayStation.

“I would like to wholeheartedly thank our wonderful community and the incredible talent I’ve had the chance to work with over these amazing years,” Lacoste tweeted.

“Thank you too, Ubisoft, for your trust and the fantastic projects that we have launched together! Bye, these years will remain unforgettable 🙂

“Ubisoft has been a lovely home for me for 16 years and I am very touched by the trust you have shown in me and the opportunities, but it was time to take another leap of faith :)”

When he came to Haven, Lacoste said, “It’s inspiring and exciting to be more hands-on with concept art and to work with many from the same core team to come up with a new original IP.”

Lacoste is the latest high profile developer to recently leave Ubisoft for the Assassin’s Creed franchise amid corporate turmoil and dramatic changes.

Assassin’s Creed veterans Darby McDevitt, who was Narrative Director at Valhalla, and Eric Baptizat, who was Valhalla Game Director, also recently left Ubisoft.

Earlier this month, Ubisoft announced the Assassin’s Creed Infinity live service platform, along with two teams led by two creative directors: Clint Hocking, formerly at Splinter Cell and Watch Dogs Legion, heads a team at Ubisoft Montreal, while Jonathan Dumont , a veteran of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate and Odyssey leads a team at Ubisoft Quebec.

The Infinity project, which will include both teams’ games, will be led by Marc-Alexis Côté, who is now executive producer of the entire Assassin’s Creed franchise. Côté worked on Brotherhood before becoming Creative Director at Syndicate and is one of the senior executives at Ubisoft Quebec.
