Developers are also bringing previous games to the Switch.
Developer Draknek’s acclaimed puzzler A Monster’s Expedition is heading to the Switch next Thursday, August 5th, and a “big” free expansion is coming to all platforms that same day.
Originally launched late last year for Steam and Apple Arcade, A Monster’s Expedition sent players on a wonderfully relaxing open-world puzzle adventure – in the role of the title monster – that mainly consists of rolling tree trunks around small, awkwardly shaped land masses, Sokoban style to build bridges and open up new islands.
Of course there are a few more creases that often lead to ingenious head scratches, but A Monster’s Expedition has such a natural charm that it never frustrates. “There’s no tension, no forced direction,” wrote Chris Tapsell in his Essential review last year, “just curiosity and verve and a reward that sometimes feels like a welcome hug.”
When A Monster’s Expedition hits Switch on August 5th, it will be accompanied by a significant free expansion for all platforms known as the Museum Update. This introduces 100 new puzzle islands – all seamlessly integrated into the open world of the existing game – plus “more than a dozen exhibits” to admire.
Furthermore, expeditioning a monster isn’t the only pleasure Draknek has in store for Switch owners. The developer is also releasing three of its acclaimed older titles on Nintendo’s platform on September 2: chemical puzzler Sokobond, snowball scooter A Good Snowman Is Hard To Build, and Cosmic Express, which task the player with planning a train route between space stations.
Draknek has also announced that it will release Sokobond Express – a brand new title mashing-up concept from Sokobon and Cosmic Express – in the second quarter of next year.
